The Heart of Chopin

I can only feel grateful
To the heart of Frédéric Chopin
Once desperate between you and me

The heart is still there
As if fixed in place
Like a lingering gentle touch

The heat haze, fragments of stars
Even the side streams of the Vistula River
All are within that noble and the majestic charisma
And my poems too still fixed,
I confess they are still there

For the publication of Poet Sang-ok Shim’s eleventh Korean-English poetry collection on Amazon, I once again found myself face to face with her poems.
This collection is not merely the addition of another volume.
Her poetry continues to cross the boundaries between nature and humanity, time and soul, expanding into deeper and broader resonances.
As translator, I too approached this work with an even more earnest devotion, striving to carry across not only the language itself, but also the breath and spaces within the poems.
I extend my deep gratitude to the poet, who has continually given me trust and encouragement as we journey together toward new literary summits.
