자꾸 웃어야 웃을 일이 생긴다기에

나는 자꾸 웃었더랬습니다

그래도 울 일이 더 많았습니다

아무래도 내가 덜 웃었던 모양입니다

 

자꾸 좋은 말을 해야 복 받는다기에

나는 자꾸 좋은 말을 했더랬습니다

그래도 나쁜 일이 더 많이 생겼습니다

아무래도 내가 더 좋은 말을 못했던 모양입니다

 

자꾸 베풀어야 좋은 일이 생긴다기에

나는 자꾸 주었더랬습니다

그랬더니 웃을 일이 더 많이 생겼습니다

아무래도 그동안 내가

먼 것과 가까운 것을 자꾸 구별했던 모양입니다

The Relationships up Close or Far Away

They say that we need to laugh often
To have a lot to laugh about, so I laughed often.
But I had more to cry about.
I guess I laughed less.

They say that we need to say good things often
To be blessed, so I said good things often.
But I had more bad things.
I'm afraid I didn't say good things as many times.

They say that we need to do a lot of favors
To have many good things , so I did a lot of favors.
And then I got a lot more to laugh about.
I guess I've made a sharp distinction
Between the relationships up close and far away.
